was incorporated in 1992 by its founder, Laura Paglin, as a nonprofit 501.C3 production company dedicated to producing thoughtful and provocative media. CFA’s documentary and narrative productions have aired on public television and HBO/Cinemax, been distributed internationally to the educational market, and have been shown theatrically in the US and Canada. They have screened at prestigious national and international film festivals - including Sundance - and have won national and international awards.
CFA has worked to build educational programs for aspiring filmmakers into its productions. CFA collaborated with Cleveland-based Independent Pictures to create two successful production-training programs and helped design and lead a directing workshop at Cleveland State University. Over the years, CFA has given many young interns their start in the film industry with hands-on training in its productions. Through funding from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture, CFA collaborated with Cuyahoga Community College to conduct two intensive editing workshops for aspiring editors, each centered around an actual documentary in-progress.
CFA expanded its mission to include the production of marketing videos for corporations and non-profits. By making use of its story-telling expertise, CFA is able to create emotionally compelling, inspiring videos that raise customer awareness, generate business, and motivate donors. Monies generated from the production of marketing videos are used to support CFA’s feature film endeavors and educational programs. CFA’s projects have been supported by the Ohio Humanities Council, the Ohio Arts Council, The Gund Foundation, The Illuminating Company, and private donations.
